The KBL has selected Sono International, the holding company of Daemyung Sono Group, as the 10th club candidate.
Sono reportedly submitted a letter of intent to acquire 18 players in one fell swoop.
With the exit of Day One, which owed players wage arrears, the league could have been run by nine clubs, but the way was open for a 10-team system.
A special draft also averted the worst-case scenario, which could have seen the squad scattered.
Former Day One players, who continue to train privately at a gym in Goyang, breathed a sigh of relief.
They looked forward to being able to focus on basketball from now on, as they had to worry about the cost of meals and basketball shoes due to DaeWon’s poor management.
“I think it’s digested now. It’s good that we can be in one team like this instead of being scattered. I want to play hard in Goyang.”
With the possibility of taking over the employment of coach Kim Seung-ki and the coaching staff, he hopes to be able to train fully and normally as soon as possible.
“I want to come out to this gym as soon as possible and work out with the manager and coach.”
The decision to create a professional basketball team in Sono will be finalized by the KBL’s board of directors and general assembly on May 21.
