APBC led by Ryu Jung-il, 26 players including Lee Yi-ri to go…further adjustments according to KS schedule
Lee Yi-ri, who was cut from the Hangzhou Asian Games baseball team, has been named to the Asian Professional Baseball Championship (APBC) roster.
The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) announced the 26-man roster for the upcoming Asian Professional Baseball Championship (APBC) on Thursday at a joint press conference with the managers of the participating nations in Tokyo, Japan.
Twelve pitchers were selected, including right-handers Jung Woo-young (LG), Park Young-hyun (KT), Jung Hae-young (KIA), Won Tae-in (Samsung), Choi Jun-yong (Lotte), Kwak Bin (Doosan), and Moon Dong-joo, and left-handers Oh Won-seok (SSG), Lee Yi-ri, Choi Ji-min (both KIA), Kim Young-kyu (NC), and Choi Seung-yong (Doosan).
The three catchers are Kim Dong-heon (Kiwoom), Kim Hyung-joon (NC), and Son Sung-bin (Lotte).
There are six infielders: Kim Hye-sung, Kim Hui-jip (Kiwoom), Moon Bo-kyung (LG), Kim Do-young (KIA), Kim Joo-won (NC), and Noh Si-hwan (Hanwha).
The outfield consists of five players: Choi Ji-hoon (SSG), Kang Baek-ho (KT), Kim Sung-yoon (Samsung), Yoon Dong-hee (Lotte), 바카라사이트 and Park Seung-kyu (Commerce).
Of the 17 players, Jung Woo-young, Park Young-hyun, Won Tae-in, Kwak Bin, Moon Dong-joo, Choi Ji-min, Kim Young-kyu, Kim Dong-heon, Kim Hyung-joon, Kim Hye-sung, Moon Bo-kyung, Kim Joo-won, Noh Si-hwan, Choi Ji-hoon, Kang Baek-ho, Kim Sung-yoon, and Yoon Dong-hee won gold medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
With Asian Games gold medalist Ryu Jung-il back at the helm, the tournament is open to players aged 24 or younger (born on or after January 1, 1999) or within their third year of playing (born after 2021), with up to three players aged 29 or younger (born on or after January 1, 1994) as wild cards.
The players selected through the Power Enhancement Committee will gather in Daegu on the 5th of next month for training and practice games at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu from the 6th to the 13th.
However, the number of participants will change depending on the postseason schedule. The final roster for the tournament may also be adjusted depending on the Korean Series schedule. A total of 20 reserve players will be allowed to participate in the tournament according to the regulations.
The Power Enhancement Committee selected the 20-player reserve roster today in order to accommodate the Korean Series and postseason schedule and in the event that a player needs to be replaced due to injury.
The reserve roster includes nine pitchers: right-handers Park Myung-geun (LG), Son Dong-hyun (KT), Kim Si-hoon and Shin Min-hyuk (NC), Cho Byung-hyun and Kim Tae-kyung (Sangsung), and left-handers Yoon Young-chul (KIA), Lee Seung-hyun (Samsung) and Lee Byung-heon (Doosan).
Two catchers, Han Jun-soo (KIA) and Heo In-seo (Sangmu), were named. Infielders are six: Jeon Eui-san (SSG), Kim Ji-chan (Samsung), Ahn Jae-seok (Doosan), Moon Hyun-bin (Hanwha), Han Tae-yang, and Na Seung-yup (Sang Sang). Three outfielders: Kim Hyun-joon (Samsung), Ko Seung-min (Lotte), and Kim Dae-hyun (Doosan).
The final roster for the tournament can be changed up to the 14th.
The 2023 APBC will be held next month from March 16-19 at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.
