Incheon United captain Oh Ban-seok said the team’s future is bright thanks to the performances of its young players after the club kept its hopes of reaching the round of 16 in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League (ACL) alive by beating Japan’s Yokohama Marinos at home.
Incheon defeated Yokohama Marinos (Japan) 2-1 at home in the fifth leg of their 2023-2024 AFC ACL Group G match at the Incheon Football Stadium on Nov. 28.
Incheon, who are playing in the ACL for the first time in their 20-year history, followed up their 4-2 win over Yokohama in the first leg of their Group G match with another victory to sit in second place (9-3-1-2) and keep their hopes of qualifying for the round of 16 alive.
Captain Oh Ban-seok started in the back line and played until the end of the match, steadily protecting the right flank and leading the younger players as a senior, contributing to the team’s victory.
“It was an important game, and I’m happy to give the fans who came to the stadium in cold weather a victory, and we will prepare well until the end so that Incheon can turn things around,” said Obansuk.
“Playing with the young players gives me a lot of energy,” said Obansuk, “and I’m sure they’ve stepped up their game today. They are an asset to our team and I am looking forward to their future.”
“I hope this year will be a meaningful year for Incheon fans,” he said, referring to the team’s recent successes such as reaching the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, advancing to the ACL, and advancing to the K League 1 Final A. “But we still don’t have anything in hand, so we will squeeze until the end and try to make it the best year ever. 파워볼
