Oh Se-Hoon “Debut – Debut goal? I want to achieve it personally… But team victory comes first”
“A team win is more important than a 안전 토토사이트 debut goal.”
These are the words of ‘first call-up to the A National Team’ top volunteer Oh Se-hoon (25, Zelvia Machida).
The South Korean national soccer team, led by interim head coach Kim Do-hoon, held its first local training session at the Bishan Stadium in Bishan, Singapore, for about an hour from 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday (July 3) ahead of its FIFA Confederations Cup North America 2026 Asia Second Qualifying Group C match against Singapore.
The match between South Korea and Singapore will kick off at 9 p.m. on June 6 at The National Stadium in Singapore.
“It’s an honor to be included in the roster,” said Oh, who was named to the A squad for the first time, “but I also feel a sense of responsibility because I’m representing Korea.”
The path to the A team was not a smooth one for Osahun, who made a name for himself at the age-group level.
The attacker was instrumental in South Korea’s runner-up finish at the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland. Oh scored the game-winning header in the Round of 16 against Japan to send South Korea into the quarterfinals. With momentum on their side, South Korea achieved the ‘runner-up myth’.
Contrary to expectations, Oh went on a downward spiral afterward. He left K League 1 Ulsan in 2022 to join Japan’s Shimizu Pulse in the K League One. However, things didn’t go as planned. A combination of injuries and poor form prevented him from securing playing time. To make matters worse, the team was relegated after the 2022 season.
In the meantime, Cho Kyu-sung (26, Mt. Willan), a year older, has expanded his presence in the national team. At the same time, Oh’s presence faded. Cho Kyu-sung was called up by coach Paulo Bento to participate in the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
However, Cho’s name is not on Kim Do-hoon’s roster this time. This is due to a knee injury.
This leaves the opportunity for Oh, who has been in good form this season. The 6-foot-3 midfielder, whose strength is in aerial balls, went on loan to Machida Zelvia, who were promoted to the J1 League ahead of the season. And he has been a sensation. In 17 appearances, he has six goals and one assist. The team is leading the league. Three of his six goals have been headers, making him the team’s top scorer. He’s a top resource who can synergize with second-stringers Son Heung-min (Tottenham) and Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton).
“I was determined every day to make the national team roster,” said Oh. I didn’t give up and worked hard to get there,” he said, adding, ”I’m not a good enough striker to be selected. I didn’t get selected because I didn’t produce good results,” he said.
“I wasn’t nervous, but I was definitely motivated,” he said, adding, “They tried their best to get into the national team as well.”
“Not only the team manager, but also the players, coaching staff, and other members of the club have been adjusting for me, and I’ve been willing to sacrifice for them, so I think that’s why I’ve been able to achieve good results, but I still feel that I’m not good enough,” he said.
His immediate goal is to do well in the A match this June. “As a target-type striker, I can be a ‘wall’ for my teammates, not just a scorer. I can also help the team better in defense as well as offense,” he said.
“When I was in my first year (at Ulsan), Kim Do-hoon was the coach, and I remember learning a lot from him,” he said.
Finally, he said, “As a striker, my goal is to take responsibility and score goals. I have a personal goal of scoring my debut goal in my debut game, but more importantly, I want to win the team.”
