Tottenham faced Crystal Palace in the 10th round of the 2023-2024 English Premier League (EPL) away match at Selhurst Park in London, England, on the 28th (Korea time). He defeated Crystal Palace in the middle and won three points. He was the first to play in the 10th round and kept his lead by raising the record of victory.
The game started with a 4-2-3-1 formation. It has activated a “nail” that puts Son Heung-min on the one-top. The first half finished 0-0. In the eighth minute of the second half, Joel Ward’s own goal took the lead. In the 21st minute of the second half, he scored an additional goal with a fantastic connection play. James Madison opened the opportunity by shaking the left side, and Brennan Johnson found Son Heung-min in the center and handed him a pass. Son Heung-min finished with a sensational left-footed half-volley shot.
Tottenham conceded a chasing goal in extra time in the second half, but won 2-1 and smiled broadly. With the victory, he was undefeated until the 10th round. He remained at the top of the league table with eight wins, two draws and 26 points. He continued his lead by beating second-ranked Manchester City and Arsenal (both 21 points) by five points. Manchester City and Arsenal remain in the lead even if they win all 10 rounds.
Tottenham has rarely taken a leisurely lead in recent years during the season. It was far behind the big four teams and remained in the upper middle, struggling with the clubs that caused the unexpected changes. It has never won a league title since the current EPL system was established in 1992–1993. Second place in the 2016-2017 season is the best performance. He is at his best pace this season, except when he topped the first division twice (1950-1951 and 1960-1961 seasons).
Son Heung-min is the player who plays the biggest part in Tottenham’s emergency. Son Heung-min is leading the team with a new captain this season. He was faithful to his duties as a helper at the beginning of the season, but when the team’s offense fell somewhat, he transformed into a “nail” and drove a goal storm. Including the winning goal, he scored eight points in this season’s EPL alone. He was second in scoring after Erling Holland (nine goals) of Manchester City.
