
The Hanwha Eagles ended their three-game ‘Great Africa’ series with a win.
Hanwha won 6-4 against the Samsung Lions at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, South Korea, on Aug. 8. Hanwha avenged the previous day’s defeat and earned its 47th win of the season (2 draws, 55 losses). They also improved to 8-2 in their last 10 games.
Hanwha’s starting lineup was Jonathan Peraza (designated hitter), Kim In-hwan (left fielder), Kim Tae-yeon (right fielder), Noh Si-hwan (third baseman), Chae Eun-sung (first baseman), Ahn Chi-hong (second baseman), Hwang Young-mook (shortstop), Choi Jae-hoon (catcher), and Jang Jin-hyeok (center field).
Hanwha’s starting pitcher Moon Dong-joo went five innings and allowed three runs (two earned).
He earned his sixth win of the season and seventh overall, as the offense rallied from a 3-3 deficit to score a run in the top of the sixth inning. Moon was followed by Kim Seo-hyun (1 inning of scoreless relief), Kim Bum-soo (1 inning of scoreless relief), Han Seung-hyeok (1 inning of scoreless relief), and Joo Hyun-sang (1 inning of scoreless relief) to preserve the win. Joo earned his 16th save of the season.
At the plate, captain Chae Eun-sung had a complete-game performance.
She hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3, 메이저사이트 and again in the top of the eighth inning to arch over the fence for her fourth career back-to-back home run.
Chae Eun-sung and Jang Jin-hyeok followed with wedge home runs to help Hanwha end the three-game series in Daegu on a high note.
After the game, Hanwha manager Kim Kyung-moon praised Moon Dong-ju for his five innings of work, and the bullpen, from Kim Seo-hyun to Kim Bum-soo, Han Seung-hyuk, and closer Joo Hyun-sang, did a good job of shutting down the opposition.
“Chae Eun-sung hit the game-winning solo home run in the sixth inning when the score was tied, and again in the eighth inning when we needed extra runs,” he said of the offense.
The three-game series was played in sweltering temperatures of over 30 degrees, which took a toll on the team’s stamina. “I want to praise all the players for their focused play in the heat,” Kim said.
Hanwha will play a three-game series against the Kiwoom Heroes at home in Daejeon on the 9th. Kim Ki-joong will be the starting pitcher on the 9th. Kiwoom will be represented by Enmanuel De Jesus.
