The ‘winning ceremony’ plan went awry after the victory, but the unity of the players and fans did not.
LG suffered a 2-3 come-from-behind loss against the KIA Tigers of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on June 6.
LG scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the second inning with the score tied at 0-0. The first batter, Austin, hit a triple to right-center field, and Oh Ji-hwan followed with an infield single to the third baseman. With runners on first and third, Park Dong-won singled to right field. The sacrifice fly gave LG a 1-0 lead.
The extra run was hard to come by, but Lee Jung-yong kept the game scoreless. In the first inning, he struck out the first batter, Kim Do-young, before retiring Ko Jong-wook on a grounder to shortstop and Kim Sun-bin on a grounder to second base.
In the second inning, he gave up a single to Lee Woo-sung and got Lee Chang-jin to ground out to the second baseman to put runners on second and third, but Han Jun-soo struck out to end the inning.
Lee came back in the fifth and gave up a single to Lee Woo-sung, the first batter he faced, and a foul fly behind the plate to Lee Chang-jin before giving up a walk to Han Jun-soo. One hit away from tying the game, he got Byun Woo-hyuk to fly out to left field and Kim Kyu-sung to fly out to third base.
LG scored another run in the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh, with the bases loaded, Shin Min-jae singled to left-center and stole second. Hong Chang-ki singled through the left side to put runners on first and third.
Park Hae-min hit a squeeze bunt in front of the first baseman and the speedy Shin Min-jae crossed home plate.
In the top of the eighth, Kim Do-young singled to left and Kim Sun-bin doubled to center to make it a 2-3 game. As it was, LG lost.
Before the game, manager Yeom Kyung-yeop prepared to fight with all his might as he had to perform a championship ceremony.
Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Park Hae-min (center fielder), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin Dean (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Park Dong-won (catcher), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), Kim Min-sung (third baseman), and Shin Min-jae (second baseman) were in the batting order.
“We have a championship ceremony after the game,” Yeom said. So I put all the starters in,” he explained. The plan failed.
However, the players and fans chanted “Invincible LG. The Jamsil game was packed to capacity. “At 5:27 p.m., the tickets were sold out. It is the sixth home 토토사이트 game of the season to be sold out.” Jamsil Stadium has 23,750 seats.
After the game, many LG fans remained after the Kia fans left, and the LG team’s victory ceremony followed. Following coach Yeom Kyung-yup’s comments, captain Oh Ji-hwan took the microphone and sang “LG” and the fans chanted “Go LG!”.
Oh was shown on the Jamsil scoreboard with tears welling up in his eyes.
