Grant Holloway
Grant Holloway (25, USA) defeated ‘Olympic champion’ Hansel Parchment (33, Jamaica) to win the men’s 110m hurdles three times in a row at the World Championships in Athletics.
Holloway was the first to cross the finish line in 12.96 seconds in the men’s 110m hurdles final at the 2023 World Championships in Athletics held at the National Stadium in Budapest, Hungary on the 22nd (Korean time).
Parchment
Parchment, the winner of the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, came second with 13 seconds 07, and Daniel Roberts (25, USA) came third with 13 seconds 09.
Sunsuke Izumiya (23), who became the first Japanese athlete to advance to the men’s 110m hurdles final at the World Championships, finished fifth with 13.19 seconds.

Holloway is the second person to win three consecutive gold medals in the men’s 110m hurdles at the World Championships, following Greg Foster (1983 Helsinki, 1987 Rome, and 1991 Tokyo).
“My goal this year was to defend the world championship title,” Holloway said in an interview with the World Association of Athletics Federations after the game.
Now, Holloway aims to win the 2024 Paris Olympics.
At the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, Holloway finished second behind Parchment.
“I want to enjoy the joy of winning in Paris next year,” said Holloway.
Django
Wig Fabrice Django (30) delivered a thrilling come-from-behind performance in the men’s triple jump,
giving Burkina Faso its first ever world championship gold medal.
Django jumped 17m64 in the 5th stage of the triple jump final,
which will be held until the 6th period, and beat Lazaro Martinez (25)
of 17m41 and Cristian Napoles (24, Cuba) of 17m40 at the same time.
Zhu Yaming (29), who gave China the first medal (3rd place)
in men’s triple jump at last year’s Eugene Games, finished fourth with a 17m15 at this event.
Django is a Burkina Faso athletics hero.
Django, who won his first world championship medal from Burkina Faso by finishing third in Doha 2019,
took home his first silver medal at Eugene 2022.
In Budapest he changed his medal to gold.
Django also came in third at the Tokyo Olympics and won the first medal in track and field in Burkina Faso.
After winning the world championship for the first time, Django said, “I can’t stop laughing.
My expression says everything. I promised the people of my country that I would write a new history.”
Daniel Stahl (30, Sweden) won the championship by throwing 71m46 in the final 6th round of the men’s discus throw final.
71m46 is a new record by 33cm that Christian Cech (24, Slovenia)
broke the previous record (71m13) achieved at last year’s Eugene Games.
Cech took second place in 70m02 that day and failed to achieve his second consecutive victory.
A gold medalist at Doha 2019, Stahl regained the World Championship title after four years.
Stahl also won the Tokyo Olympics.
After the game, Stahl looked back on the thrilling moment, saying,
“I was more focused when I saw Cech over 70m.”
