How to stop Cheongju KB’s Park Ji-Soo.
That’s the biggest question for Asan Woori Bank ahead of the best-of-five championship series (best-of-three) in the 홀덤 2023-2024 Korean Women’s Professional Basketball League.
KB and Woori Bank will meet in the first round of the championship on Nov. 24 at Cheongju Gymnasium. It will be the fourth time in the last 10 years that the two teams have met in the championship. The two teams, who finished first and second in the regular season, have no physical burden as they passed the best-of-four playoffs (PO) with three wins and three wins and one loss, respectively.
The experts favor KB. This season, KB leads the head-to-head series 4-2, and Park Ji-soo (pictured) has been a standout performer. This season, Park has been unstoppable, becoming the first player in women’s professional basketball history to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the first four rounds. She was the only player in the league to average more than 20 points per game and had an impeccable rebounding season, averaging 15.2 per game. KB is undefeated in 17 games at home this season, including the POs.
“It’s a big game, so the players need to be focused and unwavering,” said KB head coach Kim Wan-soo, “and we will definitely take it from the first game at home.”
However, KB cannot afford to let their guard down. Defending champion Woori Bank is 2-1 in the last three championship games against KB. Woori Bank is determined to overcome KB with Gwan-rok and the bench. With Kim Dan-bi healthy, Park Ji-hyun, who has grown into a more mature player, and Park Hye-jin, who has MVP experience, are not backing down and are determined to win a second straight title. “KB is a very strong team, so we will give our best effort from the first game,” said Woori Bank head coach Lee Sat-woo.
