After a breakout September that lifted his team out of the relegation zone, Sejingya broke the record for the most Player of the Month awards in K League history, adding to his final-round team’s fight to escape the relegation zone.
After scoring in four consecutive games starting in Round 30, Sejingya notably scored dramatic equalizers against Seoul and Gangwon in Rounds 31 and 32 to come back from 0-1 down, and scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the equalizer in the final round match at home against 파워사다리 Jeonbuk Hyundai.
Going into the match against Gwangju, Sejingya was on target for the fifth consecutive game, and with 11 points and seven goals, he is second in attacking points, third in assists, and seventh in goals scored. As the inaugural winner of the Player of the Month award in the K League, which began in March 2019, Sejingya has often seen his awards translate into positive impacts for his team in the following months, raising expectations for the remainder of the campaign.
After his first award in March 2019, Daegu FC went unbeaten in the month of April with three wins and two draws.
At the time, Sejingya was credited with turning the team’s fortunes around despite being sidelined for two weeks after suffering an injury against ACL Hiroshima in April.
The following June, Sejingya won his second award, scoring in both of Daegu’s two wins in July, against Gwangju and Busan.
After winning the award for the third consecutive year in May 2021, Sejingya did not play a K League match in June, but helped the team reach the round of 16 in the ACL qualifiers for the first time.
In 2022, the second time he has won the award in a season, after winning it in May, he helps his team to an unbeaten run the following month, winning two League One games, drawing two and winning the FA Cup. In October, the same year he won his last award before this one, he was the primary contributor to his team’s stay up, and he continues to shine as part of Daegu’s winning formula.
Following Sejingya’s Player of the Month award, the team’s good form continued in the following months, with Daegu already recording a theater-goal comeback win in their first game of October, and facing two away games in the final round against Gwangju FC and Daejeon Hana Citizens on the last Sunday of the month.
If Sejingya, who was in top form in September and led the team to a four-match unbeaten streak, continues to perform, Daegu’s survival could be secured even sooner.
