The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has described the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games as “one of the best ever”.
“It was one of the best Asian Games ever,” acting OCA secretary general Vinod Kumar Tiwari told reporters at the main media center at the Hangzhou Expo Center in Zhejiang, China, on Monday.
“There were 97 new records, 26 new Asian records and 13 new world records,” he said, adding that he was pleased with the “very high level of competition,” according to MyInfo, a website dedicated to the Games.
“This Asian Games was the largest in the history of the Games, with around 12,400 athletes, 4,975 team officials, around 4,700 competition officials and more than 1,200 media representatives,” he added.
“The success of the Games gives us the opportunity to set the basic standards for the next Asian Games,” said OCA Vice President Wei Yizhong. “The organizers did not have any major problems. The only problem I saw was a mechanical issue, which was resolved immediately.”
“If I were to compare this Games to previous Games in China, I would give it a 99, because there is always room for improvement,” he said, “and I would like to thank the volunteers who worked day and night.”
Chen Weiqiang, secretary-general of the organizing committee, was noncommittal when asked about the possibility of using the venues and other facilities of the Asian Games to host future Olympic Games.
“The venues for the Asian Games are very good. Many international sports organizations believe that our facilities are up to par for the Olympics and large-scale international competitions,” he said, adding, “We haven’t thought about whether or not we will host the Olympics.” 스포츠토토
